Although corals look like plants they are really animals. In fact, they are very colorful creatures. In the right light, a reef is a rainbow of colors. Under the sea, corals reflect light and that is what renders the reef with radiance. If the reef is healthy, a variety of sea life will live there. Bright colors seem to lure fish and other creatures to glimmering coral reefs. Sea slugs are some of the smaller animals while turtles are some of the larger animals that reside near coral reefs. Since so many fish also rely on coral reefs for food and protection, coral reefs are vital to life on earth.
